Harley writes about music, Dex is the lead singer of Kinky Shine, a popular rock band. The two are thrown together when her father, who’s also Kinky Shine’s manager, hires her to make the band more accessible to their fans via social media. Sparks – and curse words – fly… even when neither want them to.

My Thoughts

I loved this book! Okay, I probably loved it just a teeny bit more because the female lead ran a music blog as I write about music elsewhere so it was easy to relate to what happened later in the book. No, I’ve never had an affair or relationship with anyone in a band that I’ve written about but still, it was super easy to relate to how she was burned when their relationship came out. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Dex (the book name, not the character) was a witty, sexy read. I’d classify it as more romance than erotica as there was more story and dialogue than sex but don’t worry, it’s still steamy and fun to read.

Other than loving how I could relate to Harley’s (the female lead) profession, the another key aspect of the book I loved was the fact that the author, Stephanie Witter wrote from both leads’ voices, alternating between them so that the story was truly theirs, not just Harley’s. This allowed me, as the reader, to not only get to know both Harley and Dex, but more importantly, see the story through their eyes as it unfolded.

The story grabbed my attention right from the first page. I loved the dialogue, which was witty, fun, real, and often quite funny. However, if you’re not a fan of cursing, you should be aware that there is lots of it in the book.

Should you read it?

Yes! Unless you’re offended by swearing, this is a great book with witty dialogue that will make you laugh, cry and cross your fingers that Dex and Harley get together.
